Robots that vacuum and clean provide the convenience of cleaning both dry debris and wet mess in one time without the need to switch between devices. They can also reduce space compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.
A good combination bot must have impressive navigation and obstacle avoidance. Look for models that have docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, replenish their water tanks and machine-wash the mopping pads.
1. Eufy S1 Pro
It's one of the easiest robots to set up that we've ever tested. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start guide gets you running in no time with the complete dust bag, water tank and hard floor solution.
The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that cleans up a mess and is a great vacuum cleaner too. The mops spin at high speeds and apply 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, making short work of dirt, pet hair and dried sticky spills. The vacuum has four power modes, a selection of brushes and attachments, and a user-friendly application that lets you pick the exact kind of cleaning you'd like for each room.
You can, for example, ask the robot to clean the kitchen and living room thoroughly but leave the spare bedroom alone. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors and smart navigation technology. It is able to recognize small obstacles that other models cannot. The only drawback is that it tends to crash into walls and objects at full speed. However, a quick look at the history of cleaning in the app will reveal exactly what the robot done, where it is moving, and what obstacles it has stumbled upon or avoided.
The docking station features a handy LCD screen that shows the time when maintenance is required like emptying the debris and rinsing the dirty water tank. It can also mix detergent automatically into the water tank by using a 600ml bottle filled with eufy's own solution.
Both the S1 Pro vacuum and mop are able to run for a long time and the mop is capable of operating for up to 184 minutes in quiet mode, while the vacuum is capable of running for 136 minutes in standard mode before needing to recharge or return to the base to replenish. You can also view the entire cleaning information in the app, which is clearly laid out and easily understood however we would like to be able distinguish between a mop only vacuum and mop and vacuum clean when looking at a clean area in the history of cleaning.
2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's top robot mop and vacuum. Unlike last year's model it comes with an agitator that doubles in its mopping pad, which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning capabilities. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction power that enables it to pull up smaller hairs as well as other debris other robotic cleaners could miss.
The Roborock model, just like the other two models I tested, has infrared and reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it get around obstacles like walls, furniture, and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things one step further by adding a dual camera which can recognize objects and determine whether they are a wall or another type of surface. It will then automatically alter its path and clean them without skipping a beat.
This is the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed but it's also the most feature-packed. Its sleek and angular design is eye-catching and it has just three physical buttons which include the power button that also resumes cleaning; a mop-only button that doubles as a child lock and a home button that can bring the robot back to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml tank of water. The water tank self-empties and the bin is auto-filling.
The only drawback I could find to this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't movable. While you can replace the mopping cloth (if necessary) but it's a challenge to remove the mount to wash manually. I've observed that any soft carpet that the robot passes will come into contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and that could cause scratches.
The S8 Pro Ultra has a variety of smart features that include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can set up and manage these through the Roborock app, which is also home to its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to plan cleanings and monitor the battery's lifespan. You'll have to go through some hoops to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame, considering the performance otherwise.
3. Dreame X40
The Dreame X40 robot vacuum and mop is a leader in the industry with innovative features, superior suction power, and advanced mowing capabilities. Its smart design allows you to customize and efficiently clean while reducing time.
The X40 robot vacuum cleaner is the first to feature 12,000 Pascals cleaning power. It is one of the most powerful alternatives available. This powerful vacuum is able to clean up pet hair as well as crumbs and other dry debris. It also has a high-quality mop that makes hard floors spotlessly clean, even with a wet pad. It can be controlled using the Dreame app or by using Alexa, Siri, and Google Home for a seamless voice-controlled operation.
The app is simple and simple to use, and the X40's smart features are easy to install. Smart DuoScrub, which is a new feature of its mops, uses two high-speed mop heads to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a maximum suction force of 7,000Pa. This is more than that of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni, and it can clean pet hair and other small dirt particles - as well as picking up spills and wet spots.
The mop is cleaned and dried in the base station every time they are used. It is solid and well-built. The mopping system is well-designed, and the double rotating mop works well on hard floors or in corners. They can also reach down to 2mm baseboards thanks to the MopExtend feature which is a nice touch.
